The psychologist behind Sati
Sati is a solo practice: from intake to completion you work with me, Jasper von Richthofen. On this page you can read where I come from and why I do this work.
Why I do this work
I studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam, but after my bachelor’s I first chose the business world. For two years I worked in marketing. I learned a lot, but above all I noticed what I was missing: meaning something to another person at the moments that truly matter.
The book On Becoming a Person by psychologist Carl Rogers gave me the final push. Rogers describes how people change within a relationship where they feel truly seen and accepted. That moved me. I went back to psychology and completed my master’s in clinical psychology at the Open University of the Netherlands.
I did my clinical internship in Dutch military mental healthcare. Since late 2025 I also work as a psychologist in a group practice. What I see there every day confirms what Rogers already wrote: techniques help, but the relationship carries the change.
Over ten years of practising attention
In 2015 I started meditating daily. What began as an experiment became a habit that still stands today.
I deepened that practice in three long retreats: three months in Malaysia and Myanmar in 2019, three months in Slovenia in 2020, and another three months in Nepal in 2024. Practising in silence for months on end may sound extreme. For me it was above all instructive. You see your own thinking patterns up close, including the difficult ones.
The name Sati comes from that tradition: Pali for open, calm attention. In treatment I work in a secular and clinical way, with methods that are grounded in science. But the underlying attitude, being fully present with what is here, I bring from my own practice.
What you can expect from me
In a trajectory we first examine together what is going on. Then we choose an approach that suits you and you get to work in concrete terms, with CBT, EMDR or mindfulness as the basis. You set the pace, I guard the course.
I am a Psycholoog NIP and work according to the code of conduct of the Dutch Institute of Psychologists (NIP). That also means I am honest about the limits of my practice: if your question is a better fit for someone else, I will help you on your way to the right place.
